About

TUCCO

The problem we're solving:
Biofouling weighs on the World's economy and the ecosystem 400 bln USD per year. It increases the carbon footprint of shipping, is the leading cause of heavy metal pollution in coastal waters and of invasive species diffusion across the Oceans. Traditional methods of tackling it rely on remediation & cleaning, we use an innovative combination of technologies to take a step further and act to prevent its very formation.
Our solution:
TUCCO combines underwater robotics, IoT/5G protocols, AI navigational systems, UltraViolet C LED and sensor-tech into a hands-off, easily used product that offers a "Roomba-like" experience for the prevention of biofouling on ship hulls while the vessels are in harbour. By applying UVC to the affected surfaces, biofouling is stopped at its early stage of biofilm, without producing any debris biological or chemical, without degrading the biofouling, and reaching every nook and cranny and "3-D challenging" surface like propellers or rudders. The improvement in fuel efficiency, and therefore carbon footprint, is dramatic, and the method used carry no downside of any sort beside some minor shift in operational protocols. The result is a cheaper, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly maritime industry, for better balance sheets and cleaner oceans.
