About

Zero Citizen

The problem we're solving:
The biggest barrier to solar adoption is affordability. Most commercial and residential building owners simply can’t afford the high upfront costs of installing solar PV systems. As a result, huge amounts of rooftop space remain unused, and access to clean energy is limited to those who can afford it.
Our solution:
Zero Citizen removes the cost barrier through our Renewable Energy Fractions (REF) platform, which enables the public to crowdfund and co-own solar panel systems. Ownership is divided into multiple fractions - for example, a system split into 100 parts would represent 1% ownership per fraction - allowing flexible investment from as little as £20, making participation accessible to the general public. The renewable energy generated is then sold directly to building occupants at around 20% less than the average utility provider, and they can continue using their existing supplier. Crucially, there is zero upfront cost and no operational responsibility for building owners, as Zero Citizen manages installation, maintenance, and performance. This model makes solar energy simple to adopt, reduces energy costs, and opens the clean energy transition to everyone.
